How much does gutter replacement cost in Melbourne?
It depends on the size of the home, the gutter profile, access, the fascia condition and whether downpipes or other drainage upgrades are needed. As a general guide, gutter replacements range from several thousand dollars for smaller homes, and projects with extensive roof drainage upgrades can exceed $10,000. Every gutter replacement starts with an inspection and a fixed upfront price.
Do my gutters need replacing or just gutter repairs?
Common signs your guttering needs replacing are rust, corrosion, leaking joints, overflowing water, sagging sections, recurring blockages and visible deterioration, particularly at the corners, which can lead to fascia rot and water damage. If your gutters overflow in the rain or are showing their age, an inspection shows whether gutter repairs or gutter replacement make more sense.
What causes gutters to overflow in heavy rain?
Debris blockages, undersized gutters, inadequate downpipe capacity, poor falls, insufficient overflow provisions, or a gutter and downpipe system that isn't suited to the roof catchment area. The inspection finds which one it is.
Do I need new downpipes when replacing gutters?
Not always. If the existing downpipes are undersized, damaged or not enough for the roof catchment area, downpipe replacement can improve the whole system. Our gutter plumbers check gutter capacity, downpipe sizing and overflows as part of the assessment.
Why do box gutters keep leaking?
Age, corrosion, inadequate sizing, poor drainage design, failed joints or incorrect installation. Sometimes it isn't the box gutter itself: the roof sheets or tiles don't extend far enough into the gutter, so water tracks behind it in heavy rain. Simply resealing it may not fix the cause; box gutter repairs, redesign or replacement may be needed.
What is fascia and when should it be replaced?
Fascia is the board or metal section behind your gutters that supports the roof edge and guttering. It may need replacing when water damage, corrosion or age has deteriorated it. Sometimes a more cost-effective option is a Colorbond fascia cover over the existing timber fascia, without replacing the eave lining.
Can you replace gutters without replacing the roof?
Yes. In many cases gutters, fascia and downpipes can be replaced without touching the roof. We assess both the roof and the gutters and downpipes and recommend what suits your home.
